This term , in RE, we are presented with a big question: 'What does it mean to be a Muslim?'. A trip to the well- renowned East London Mosque was a wonderful introduction to this unit where the children were able to see and hear about the beliefs, lifestyle and place of worship of Muslims.
The tour guide took the children through the three buildings that are connected to form the 40 year old establishment and taught about why Muslims believe what they believe alongside some of the rules that they follow in their lives and in the Mosque.
'How do you pick the person who is the Imam?'- Cruz, Larch
'Muslims stand in a straight line to pray using the pattern on the floor.' - Maalik, Larch
The children were also fascinated to learn about the bees that are kept at the mosque and were interested to discover the honey is not sold but auctioned to raise money for the community and resources that are offered to everyone.
osque is also a place that supports those in need, has a secondary school for boys and a mixed primary school, conducts arabic classes and provides medical support.
