Over the last few weeks we have been reading Letters From the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll.
The story is set in World War two with the two main characters, Olive & Cliff being evacuated after a particularly scary air raid.
We have looked very carefully at the characters feelings and actions as the story unfolds. We have discussed the difference between fact and opinion and raised our own questions about the events that have occurred.
In addition to this, we have compared and contrasted the book with our previous book, Street Child. We have been amazed at how many similarities and differences we can find. It has made a great topic of discussion in our Guided Reading sessions.
I like how they both have a historical Context Victorians and WWII. Both characters had to leave their homes which is a similarity but how they had to leave them is different. Jim lost his because he was evicted but Olive was evacuated - Maggie, Redwood
I think the main difference is the time in history the book was set. Zach, Maple
Both of the texts have a variety of settings which makes the story more exciting.' Anish
