Year 6 Food Drive: Helping Our Local Community!

Year 6 Food Drive: Helping Our Local Community!

As part of our exciting range of experiences and community initiatives this year, Year 6 is proud to be organising a food drive to support our local food bank.

We are calling on our school community to help us make a real difference to families who need it most. We are kindly asking for donations of non-perishable food items, including:

  • Canned vegetables and fruits

  • Dried pasta and rice

  • Long-life milk and long-life fruit juices

  • Canned soups, beans, and sauces

  • Cereal and oat packets

Please send any food donations into school with your child on Monday 5th October and Tuesday 6th October. All collected items will then be hand-delivered directly to the local food bank by a group of Year 6 pupils on Friday 9th October.

This project is a wonderful opportunity for our Year 6 pupils to learn about community responsibility, empathy, and active citizenship while working together for a great cause.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and continued support!

Essential Life Skills, Smart Debates & Addition Power in Year 5!

Life Skills: Broadford DIY

We are thrilled to wrap up Part 1 of our Broadford DIY Life Skills module. Over the last three weeks, Year 5 pupils have gained hands-on knowledge to help them become more independent:

  • Healthy Eating & Food Labels: We investigated how to read nutritional traffic light systems on packaging to make informed choices about balanced diets.

  • Personal Care & Hygiene: The children learned the science behind sweating, exploring the differences between deodorants and anti-perspirants.

  • Laundry Essentials: We covered the basics of washing clothes, including sorting by colours, understanding fabric care, measuring dirt levels, and choosing the right laundry products.

Literacy: Tackling Big Questions

In Literacy, we have been busy planning our independent balanced arguments exploring the debate: "Should Social Media Have an Age Restriction?" The pupils have looked at both sides of the argument, gathering compelling points for and against to ensure their writing is fair and well-structured. Over the coming week, they will be bringing these plans to life in their final drafts.

MATHS:  MOVING BEYOND PLACE VALUE

In Maths, we officially finished our unit on Place Value! Having built a strong foundation in understanding number values, we are now moving on to Addition and Subtraction, where pupils will apply column methods to increasingly complex problems.

Well done to all of Year 5 for their fantastic focus and hard work across every subject this week!
