Year 6 - 9.10.26

Year 6 Weekly Round-Up: A Week Full of Learning!

It has been another busy and hardworking week in Year 6, with lots of exciting learning taking place across the curriculum. From developing our writing skills to exploring the human body and discovering more about natural disasters, the children have continued to show enthusiasm, curiosity and determination.

Literacy: Building Strong Arguments

In Literacy this week, we finished writing our balanced arguments. The children worked hard to research their topics and consider different points of view before reaching a sensible, well-informed opinion in their conclusions. We also practised using the passive voice to help keep our writing formal and appropriate for this style of writing. The children should be very proud of the thoughtful arguments they have produced!

Maths: Getting to Grips with Division

In Maths, we began our new topic on division, focusing on long division. We explored the steps involved and discussed how essential a secure knowledge of times tables is when working through calculations. Regular practice of times tables at home will be a great way to support the children as we continue to develop their confidence and accuracy.

Science: Exploring the Digestive System

Science was particularly hands-on this week! We carried out a practical experiment to help us understand how the intestines absorb nutrients and how waste is removed from the body. This gave us a valuable opportunity to explore the digestive system in more detail and see how our bodies process the food we eat.

Art: Exploring Positive and Negative Space

In Art, we continued investigating positive and negative space in pictures. Using the grid method to help us work accurately, we created lizard silhouettes, paying close attention to shape, proportion and the spaces around our subjects. The children continued to develop their observational skills while exploring how contrasting spaces can create an effective image.

Geography: Earthquakes and Tsunamis

In Geography, we learned more about earthquakes and explored how these powerful natural events occur. We also investigated how undersea earthquakes can trigger tsunamis, helping us understand the connections between different natural hazards and their potential impact on coastal communities.

What's coming up?

Please use the following link to learn more about the long division method we will be using.

Long Division

In Literacy, we will be writing an explanation text and looking at how this differs from an instructional piece of writing.

Over the next two weeks all classes will also be attending their workshop at The Ben Kinsella Trust. Please see the website for further information

Reminders

This upcoming week children will be partaking in their first WILD Passport of the year. They must bring in and change into suitable clothing and outdoor shoes to be able to take part.

We are still collecting for our Year 6 Food drive. Please send children in with any unperishable items that you can spare.
