Year 6 Weekly Update
It has been another busy and exciting week in Year 6, with lots of learning, creativity and new experiences to celebrate!
Literacy
This week, we began our new unit on explanation texts. We started by exploring how simple instructions are structured and then looked at how these can be developed into more detailed explanation texts. Together, we agreed on a definition: an explanation text tells us how or why something happens. We are looking forward to building on this knowledge as we learn how to write our own detailed explanations.
Maths
In maths, we have continued to develop our skills in long division, and the children have made fantastic progress! Some children have shown great confidence dividing using factors - ask them to show you!
Science
We continued our learning about the circulatory system, focusing on the different organs involved and understanding the important functions each one performs. The children are developing their understanding of how these organs work together to keep our bodies healthy.
Black History Month
To celebrate Black History Month, we have been learning a poem that we are excited to perform and record. The children have been working hard to learn the words and prepare their performances, and we look forward to sharing the finished result with you!
We are also looking forward to completing our Black History Month art project next week.
Forest School
One of the biggest highlights this week was that everyone had the opportunity to experience Forest School! We spent the morning developing our weaving skills using wool and practising the fish and dish technique. We used these skills to create beautiful God's eyes.
We also applied the same techniques to make picture frames, which we then filled with natural resources to create gorgeous nature-inspired pictures. It was wonderful to see the children exploring their creativity, developing practical skills and making the most of this exciting outdoor learning experience.
Looking Ahead
Next week, we are looking forward to continuing our learning in all subjects, completing our art project and building on the fantastic progress we have made this week.
Please remember to bring in any recycling so we can use the materials for our Art project.
Well done, Year 6, for another brilliant week of hard work, enthusiasm and creativity. We are very proud of you all!
