What a fantastic start to the new academic year! Our Year 5 children have settled in brilliantly, bringing wonderful energy and enthusiasm into the classroom every day.

Year 5 Master Roman Numerals and Place Value!
It has already been a remarkably busy week, and the children are thriving. In Maths, they dived straight into revisiting Roman numerals and place value, showing great determination and focus. Hands-on learning has been at the heart of our lessons, with everyone using practical equipment to build, represent, and deepen their understanding of larger numbers.

In literacy, we are reading 'The Hacker' and currently looking at a diary entry from the perspective of Vicky who has been accused of cheating in a maths exam. However, what has made her situation worse, is that her dad has been arrested for a £1,000,000 fraud! We are focusing on Vicky's innermost thoughts and feelings and her dilemma.
We are incredibly proud of how quickly Year 5 have adapted to their new routines and set such a positive tone for the term ahead. Keep up the amazing work!
In their last, first week of primary school the Year 6's have been busy bees!
In Literacy, we have fully dived into our text for the half term: Holes - by writing character descriptions and diary entries
We can't wait to see what the rest of the year holds with our fabulous bunch!

Please find below Year 5's spellings for this week. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings every evening, so they are prepared for their spelling test on Friday.
The year 5 team would like to invite you to a presentation about the Mersea residential trip. It will be in the new hall at 3:45 pm on Tuesday 22nd September 2026. We will be giving you all the relevant information and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
If you are unable to make it, we will send out the presenation via Blogger and Parentpay if possible.

Welcome to the year group meeting for year 5
