We
are delighted to provide you with the Learning Challenge for this half of the
Spring Term.
You
will notice that the activities have now been split into Basic, Advanced and
Deep Learning. This is a new way for us to look at learning at Broadford, and
is designed to ensure that children not only acquire factual knowledge but also
gain a further understanding about how their new skills or knowledge can be
applied to their own lives or be used to further their cognitive and social
development.
The
themes of the Learning Challenge for the second half of the Spring Term are Water
and Electricity. It is entirely up to the child whether they select the poem,
significant person, music or painting, or a combination of all 4. They can also
select the activities that they want to attempt, though we would encourage them
to deepen their learning as much as possible.

Poem
The Changing Light –
Lawrence Ferlinghetti
The changing
light
at San Francisco
is none of your
East Coast light
none of your
pearly light of
Paris
The light of San
Francisco
is a sea light
an island light
And the light of
fog
blanketing the
hills
drifting in at
night
through the
Golden Gate
to lie on the
city at dawn
And then the halcyon
late mornings
after the fog
burns off
and the sun
paints white houses
with the sea
light of Greece
with sharp clean
shadows
making the town
look like
it had just been
painted
But the wind
comes up at four o’clock
sweeping the
hills
And then the veil
of light of early evening
And then another
scrim
when the new
night fog
floats in
And in that vale
of light
the city drifts
anchorless
upon the ocean
