Decimals in Year 5
Year 5 have been working hard to develop their decimal knowledge this week.
We have been multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 & 1000. At times this has been difficult but we have been resilient and have become more confident by the end of the week.
We have learnt that if we multiply, the digits move to the left and increase in value. If we divide, they move to the right and decrease.
If you multiply or divide by 10 they move one place. If it is by 100 it is two places. 1000 is three places.
"We did this yesterday, we just need to go the other way." Isabella - Redwood
We must never move the decimal point.
"I am now confident moving the digits and know why they move." Kevin - Maple
“I found dividing the decimals difficult at first but by the end I could do it independently!” Ellie, Willow
