Precise Percentages in Year 6!

Children in Year 6 have been using their reflectiveness to relate their fraction and decimal knowledge to percentages. We also discussed why percentages are so important in everyday life: they appear when you are shopping, working, or even sports.

"40 hundredths is equal to 40/100 or four tenths, which is equivalent to 40%." - Jacob

"The word percentage has per and cent in it, which means for every 100. So, 1 per cent means 1 for every 100, or 1/100." - Molly

"It's simple to convert a fraction that has a denominator of 100 into a percentage." - Alfie

They also used these steps to success to help them convert some trickier fractions which did not have a denominator of 100.
