Please click here to watch the some of the children in Almond class singing along to the Subordinate Conjunction Song!
Year 6 have loved learning about subordinate clauses in their literacy lessons this week. They have especially enjoyed the catchy song that they have been singing along to. It has taught them all the different subordinate conjunctions that the children can use to add detail to their clauses when writing.
The children have been creating their own complex sentences that include both a main clause and a subordinate clause.
For example:
"The puppy likes to bark, even though it's early." Frankie P, Almond
"I know that the puppy likes to bark is the main clause, as it makes sense on its own, and even though it's early is the subordinate clause, which includes the subordinate conjunction even though." Frankie P, Almond
"Although he woke up late for school, David still managed to get in on time." Harry, Almond
"I have started my sentence with a subordinate clause and although is the subordinate conjunction." Harry, Almond.
Most of the children were a bit too young to recognise the tune to the song - a shout out to Sophie in Oak class, who instantly knew what the original song was!
You can play the whole song here.
We apologise in advance if you hear it on repeat for the next few days at home!
