Science this week in Year 6 has been evaluating our experiment: comparing rest and exercise heart rates.
The children found out that:
- Exercise heart rate was higher than resting heart rate
- Generally, people who have higher resting heart rates, also have higher exercise heart rates (the peaks coincide)
- Children’s resting heart rates were between 50 - 90
- Children’s exercise heart rates were between 85 - 120
- The graph clearly shows that exercise does increase the heart rate
They then evaluated their experiment and thought of reliability, what makes a test fair, and how they could have improved their method of data collection. The children used excellent reflectiveness to relate back to their experiment and learning on reliability.
"We could have used an electronic heart rate monitor for more accurate readings of heart rate instead of finding the pulse." - Giada, Lime
"In order to control the different variables better, we could have done the exercise on a machine, like a treadmill or exercise bike, and set the effort to be consistent for the experiment." - Lily, Lime
