This week in Literacy, Year 6 have been thinking about whether or not Zoe - the lead character in our book, Floodland - should stay on Eels Island, or leave for a better life. They discussed in groups reasons for her to stay and reasons for her to go; it was brilliant to see the children debating respectfully and supporting all of their ideas with evidence from the text.
"There is no way stay on this island; she finally knows where her boat is, so she should leave immediately!" Maisie, Almond
"She could overthrow Dooby's tyrannical leadership and become the new leader of Eels Island - that is a pretty good reason to stay!" Giada, Lime
Some excellent collaborative work, Year 6. We look forward to continuing the debate and writing a discussion text on this issue.
